Lent, Holy Week and Easter – 2025

Our services and other provision for Lent, Holy Week and Easter can be found in the Mid-week message and in the regular notice sheets provided at services in church.  A brief summary is given below (with apologies for anything that may have been missed!).  A  card with details of the Holy Week and Easter Sunday events  is available at the back of the church.  Help in distributing these cards around the Parish would be very much appreciated.

Shrove Tuesday, March 4th –

• Pancake Party – 6.00 – 8.00pm (St Michael’s)

Ash Wednesday, March 5th –

• Sung Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes (setting Mass – 40 Days and 40 Nights by Nicholas Hare) – 7.00pm (St Robert’s) –  Please click here to read the Vicar’s brief thoughts on Ash Wednesday and the Imposition of Ashes.

 

 

Thursdays 11.30am – 12.30pm in the Chapter House;  Tuesdays  7.30pm –  8.30pm  in the ChapterHouse

Lent study course exploring The Sacraments –  for 5 weeks throughout Lent.  Thursdays’ sessions will be followed by a soup lunch.

 

Mothering Sunday, March 30th –

• Parish Communion for Mothering Sunday; 9.15am (St Robert’s), and at 11.15am (St Michael’s).  Flowers will be distributed at these services.

Palm Sunday, April 13th

• Annual procession of palms with donkey; a joint celebration with our Methodist partners…this year starting at 10.00am at St Robert’s Church , and finishing at Daw Cross Methodist Chapel at the top of Spring Lane, after the procession up through Pannal Village.

Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday of Holy Week –

• there will be Holy Communion at 9.00am at St Robert’s on Monday and Wednesday and at St Michael’s on Tuesday

Maundy Thursday, April 17th –

• at 10.30 there will be Holy Communion
• at 7.00pm there will be a reflective service, ‘Supper in the Upper Room’ at St Robert’s;
• at 9.00pm at St Michael’s, Tenebrae – a service of shadows.

 

Good Friday, April 18th –

• • • • • The Good Friday Liturgy at 8.30am
        • a morning Family service at 10.30am at St Robert’s venturing outside for a ‘story trail’ based on the events of Passiontide and Easter
        • from 2.00 – 3.00pm at St Michael’s, meditation and reflection ‘At the Foot of The Cross’
        • on Good Friday evening, there will be a streamed performance at St Robert’s of  ‘Last Words of Love’ a devotional Passiontide sequence, incorporating hymns for the congregation, readings and prayers and choral items on the theme of the Seven Last Words from The Cross starting at 7.00pm.

 

Easter Day, Sunday April 20th –

• ‘Sunrise Service’, meet at St Robert’s 5.30am to walk up and along the path from All Saints Court (half-way up Church Lane), followed by breakfast in the Chapter House at St Robert’s;
•  8.00am at St Robert’s – Holy Communion (BCP with hymns)
• 9.15am at St Robert’s – a Celebration Family Communion for Easter Day…..followed by an Easter Egg Hunt.
• St Michael’s celebrate their Festival Easter Communion at 11.15am….also followed by an Easter Egg Hunt.

There will be NO 6.00pm evening service in the Benefice on Easter Day.
