Advent to Christmas at St Robert’s – 2024
Sunday, November 24th – (The Sunday Next before Advent; Festival of Christ the King; Safeguarding Sunday)
Holy Communion from St Robert’s at 9.15am, (live-streamed) designated as ‘Safeguarding Sunday’, starts the run up to Christmas and beyond – the period known as ‘The Coming of the Kingdom’.
Sunday, December 1st – ADVENT SUNDAY
At 8.00am a Book of Common Prayer Holy Communion; and at 9.15am an All-Age Service led by Stuart and the All-Age team.
A Choral Service at 6.00pm in St Robert’s, incorporating readings and traditional seasonal music and hymns to mark the beginning of Advent and the seasonal expectation of the Nativity.
Sunday, December 8th
Parish Communion at 9.15am (live-streamed) at which gifts will be dedicated for distribution to refugees and asylum-seekers at Armley Meeting Point. Details of how to contribute will be published in the mid-week messages.
Sunday, December 15th
At 8.00am a Book of Common Prayer Holy Communion; and then Morning Worship at 9.15am (live-streamed)
‘Advent Reflections’ at 6.00pm – a quieter reflective service of music, readings and prayer as we move through the Advent season
Sunday, December 22nd
Parish Communion at 9.15am (live-streamed); this is a service for the last Sunday in Advent, with readings, hymns and anthems on the theme of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and the momentous visit paid to her by the Archangel Gabriel to tell her she was to be the mother of our Lord.
Festival of lessons and carols at 6.00pm; a traditional service with bible readings, carols from the choir and traditional carols and Christmas hymns for the congregation. This service will be live-streamed
Tuesday, December 24th (Christmas Eve)
Crib services (with Nigel, the donkey in attendance) will be held at 4.00pm and 5.15pm
Midnight Eucharist live-streamed at 11.30pm; the first communion service of Christmas. Please note that, although described as a ‘midnight’ service, the start of the service is actually 11.30 pm.
Wednesday, December 25th (Christmas Day)
Holy Communion – with Christmas hymns at 8.00am; this service uses the Order from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer and offers a quieter and more reflective celebration of the Christmas message.
Family Christmas Communion live-streamed at 9.15am; this is an all-age service for the whole family. Bring a favourite present for it to be incorporated in the special sermon re-telling the Story of Christmas!
