Family resources for coronavirus

Hello to the St Robert’s and St Michael’s Church Families!

30 April 2020

Hi everyone,

I hope you are still finding ways to have fun and enjoy yourselves as well as learning and working each day.

James and Alistair have been doing a lot of baking in our house and helping with some of the housework such as mowing the lawn and doing the dishes. They
are getting rewarded for this, of course!

As we are all still largely stuck at home I thought I would send you on some more recommended resources for families looking for some faith-based stuff.

“Roots”, the organisation that we use for much of our Junior Church content, are offering free weekly resources for families to look at, based on the readings for the week. These are available each week at https://www.rootsontheweb.com/ (look for the “FREE resources” button on the right). It has prayers, a bible story, activities and printable sheets which are updated each week.

For Crumpet Church and in schools we use a lot of Bible stories from “Open the Book”.  Sadly because of copyright we cannot continue to record our own versions of these stories for you to look at online, but…. They are putting up some assemblies online, with the stories often told by Bob Hartman himself, author of the Lion Storyteller Bible.  To keep up to date and find these resources, follow them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/OpentheBookuk/.

Finally, here’s an idea for us all. VE Day is coming up on Friday 8 May. There will be a 2 minute silence at 11.00am to remember all those who died in World War II to achieve Victory in Europe, as well as others who have died in military conflict and the victims of Covid-19.  After this, how about holding your own “stay at home street party” by decorating the front of your house in red, white and blue and having a party in your front garden or from the front of your house? An excuse for party food and picnics, games, music and fun, visible to all who pass by or live nearby. Share your pictures of your stay at home street party with us on Facebook.

We know it is not easy for you at the moment. John and I continue to pray for you all every day, adults and children, that you would stay safe, happy and healthy. Do get in touch with us at any time. We’d love to hear from you.

Revd. Abbie and Revd. John

Here are some new resources for hard-stretched families!…..one for small children; one for teenagers; and one for adults – a daily reflection for Holy Week (BEWARE – big file this one – about 21Mb, so only available in the DropBox)

WORSHIP

Engage worship

From 23rd March, 2020 we’ll be posting a daily prayer and worship activity. These will appear on this page, and also on our social media accounts for Twitter, Facebook and Instagram (use the hashtag #EngageAtHome).

They will include a simple prayer or worship activity which families can engage with together, using movement, interaction, craft, play and more. We will be varying the themes and types of engagement with God, and we are sure that you’ll be able to adapt the ideas to suit your family.
