Mothers’ Union

The Branch is now 24 years old. It has been a busy year and we have had some very interesting and varied speakers including:
  • John Gilleghan on Yorkshire Churches
  • Tony Hudson reminisced on the changes in his life
  • Ruth Ellis and the children affected by the Chernobyl disaster
  • Nigel Sinclair gave us the history of our own St Robert
  • Christine Baker told us about her Gambia experience
  • And finally a Christmas Flower demonstration by the Yorkshire Flower Club
This year we have lost Denise Welburn who will be sadly missed.

Fund raising events for the MU have been successful and we have:
  • Raised £100 for the church and charity at the Autumn Fayre
  • We collected £64 for the children of the children of the Chernobyl disaster
  • £242 was raised at the Cricket Club Gala bottle stall on August Bank Holiday Monday
We have supported various Church activities:
  • Women’s World Day of Prayer at St Paul’s Church on 3rd March
  • Lady Day Service at Hampsthwaite on 25th March
  • MU Wave of Prayer in our church on 27th June
  • Midday Prayers and Picnic at Ripley on 9th August
  • The Provincial Service at York Minster on 30th November
  • Advent Service at Ripon Cathedral on 12th December
Other events were:
  • A trip to the theatre to see The Boyfriend in July
  • We donated cakes to St Peter’s Church for their debt campaign
  • The committee enjoyed a meal out together at Chez la Vie in July
June and Jean have complete another very successful year as Leader and assistant Leader. They are both very committed and conscientious and have worked extremely hard for MU, but will now be stepping down as officers. They will be a hard act to follow. On behalf of the Committee members I would like to thank them and Janet, who is also stepping down, for all their hard work.

We would like to see new members joining the MU and hope that existing members will be encouraged to be new committee members.

The Secretary
