Friendly Club

Here is the Friendly Club Annual Report for the A.G.M. This has been another good year starting on the 4th Tuesday of September 2006 at 2.15pm in the Chapter House with 4 new members, bringing the total to 24.

Tommy Lamb, who cut the grass in the churchyard for many years, is our 1st and only gentleman member for a long while. The annual subscriptions were collected while members exchanged news over a cup of tea and cakes.

We had some interesting speakers during October, November, February, and May, including one by Julian Bennett, our Church Warden, on “Our life in Australia”, and John Gilleghan on “The life of James Herriot”. In March our speaker was taken ill, so we had a Beetle Drive which caused some hilarity.

The Christmas Party was enjoyed by all,and in January we had lunch at the Harwood. But as usual the Pie and Pea Supper in April was the favourite event. The year ended in June with lunch at The Staveley Arms, North Stainley and a browse around the shops at Lightwater Valley. In all a busy year.
