Fabric and Churchyard


The church fabric is in good order.

A Quinquennial Report is to be made this April, but the following numbered notes refer to the ‘Schedule of Work Requiring Attention’ (appendix in the 2003 Quniquennial report).

1. Immediate
1.1 Access in order -audit to be prepared.

2. Essential within this year (now 2008)
Work carried out with exception 2.2 Roof inspection.
2.5 Chapter House – ground drainage needs excavation and inspection but rainwater is not causing problems.

3. Necessary within quinquennium
Pointing now completed including additional work to tower.

4. In the longer term
Boundary wall to Graveyard.

6.4.1. Regular maintenance:–
  • Fire fighting equipment serviced and checked.
  • Electrical equipment checked – shutters to Chapter House serviced and repaired.
  • Organ serviced (motor pump repaired).
  • Chapter House boiler serviced – costs for replacement under examination.
  • Church boiler servicedn (new pump following flooding).
  • Clock serviced.

6.4.2. Matters acted on during 2006
  • Stonework pointing (including Faculty).
  • General bulb and tube replacement.
  • EE bulbs fitted centre light fitting Chapter House.
  • Frame one altar cloth reduced.
  • Motor repair organ pump.
  • New pump including repositioning to Church central heating.
  • Asbestos removed cover to Chancel radiator.
  • General cleaning Chapter House gutters.

6.4.3. Matters to be acted on in 2008
  • Accessibility audit.
  • Clean out Belfry including greasing bell bearings – and refixing grilles.
  • Shelves in Vicar’s vestry.
  • Electric inspection – with view to assessing practicality of additional outlets in Church and Chapter House.
  • Fixing tell tales to crack in Chancel by larger window on south elevation and monitoring.
  • Pointing open joint in coping east end of Nave roof.
  • Gate to be remade.
  • Faculty application for Burial of Ashes.

The Church logbook is now housed in the metal cupboard in the Vicar’s vestry and as far as I am aware, matters required have been noted therein.
